Among the equipment being carried on this formidable icebreaking and floating research vessel, are plastic hockey sticks and enough small orange plastic balls to withstand breakage in the sub-freezing temperatures. Goalies wore carpentry shop safety masks, and Jesse, the science team goalie, made kneepads out of big blue sponges used for mopping fuel....

As I sit to write about my experience on the Amundsen thus far - my mind races to a hundred different experiences and episodes of wonder. Coming from Southern California in the U.S. we hear about the Arctic. We read about the Arctic. In my opinion, until you experience the Arctic you really know little about this part of the world’s magic and majesty.
